why have a message owner button but no request membership button on channels? running a channel is just annoying now

My assumption is a slow roll out to combat spam such as why follow a channel before member invite can be sent? If available day 1 some owners would be flooded with hundreds of requests

better this than flooded by messages that are requests that then take 20 clicks to satisfy per request
