Did you know that the iconic jack-o'-lantern wasn't always a pumpkin? Originally, the Irish carved turnips or potatoes into lanterns to ward off evil spirits during the Celtic festival of Samhain. When Irish immigrants brought this tradition to America, they discovered a more plentiful and easier-to-carve option: the pumpkin. The pumpkin's versatility and size made it the perfect canvas for spooky faces, and the tradition has been a Halloween staple ever since. Happy Halloween! 🎃👻🍬 (October 31s)
