Pre-ordering video games used to have a specific purpose: Make sure you get a physical copy of a game before it sells out. Today, we have infinite digital distribution. It depends on the game, I would argue, and their previous track record. GTA 6 I'll happily pre-order. Pre-orders tend to get early access now as well.
