Moxiesplaining Journal Day 17: Restorative Patterns, Not Unjobbing

The pushback on my “Farcaster is my un-job” casts made a lot of sense, so I'm dropping the word "unjobbing" from my Moxiesplaining so as not to mislead. 

I'll still use it in other contexts. I think permissionless work based on alignment is a good North Star.

It's exciting that (some) casters earn Everyday Rewards for their work + launch Fan Tokens.

Extractive entities assume "free" labor, and siphon off the lion's share of value created by that labor. 

But Moxie begins to establish restorative patterns by returning more value to contributors whose labor benefits the FC network.

While Moxie can't reverse extractive patterns overnight, it's worth highlighting efforts to normalize restorative patterns this way, since FC is the only place it's happening right now.

But I'll stop calling it unjobbing.

A question for the Farcaster scenius (which includes you, if you're a human reading this): 

What do y'all think of using the terms "un-job" and "unjobbing" to describe permissionless work options emerging through using Farcaster + earning Moxie? Yay or nay?

I've got to push back a little on that third point.

 I think you've described a very small percentage of people on here so it's the exception not the rule. 

There's no denying that you can earn money, but considering the current valuation of moxie it's a negligible amount for the time risk, and not guaranteed income either, which places it in a much lower category of writing income consideration for me.

I think if you look at the amount of moxie earners, and then look at the number of those earners earning what would be considered minimum wage for the hours put in, i think you'd be surprised at how few there are actually earning above it. 

Obviously this is a currency without fixed valuation so that earning potential could change but currently it doesn't seem worth the risk for me to replace other better paid outlets for writing. And certainly not enough in almost all cases to bootstrap small businesses, or give you more time for writing (sorry don't hate me!)

The other points you have made i agree with.

Moxiesplaining Journal Day 16: FC The Value of Members' Fan Tokens

It's notable that there are multiple ways for Farcaster Members' Fan Token values to increase:

1) People buy the Members' Fan Tokens.

2) The Members' casts attract significant engagement, which is then reflected in higher Everyday Rewards earnings + price increases for their Fan Token following the daily buy-and-burn cycles.

3) The Moxie token price increases.

One beauty of this design is that disappointing short-term price trends (#3) don’t negate the slow-burn positive-sum compounding effects of #1 and #2 on the value of Members' Fan Tokens (+ the FC network as a whole).

In fact, disfavorable early price trends for the Moxie token may ultimately serve the Farcaster community well, since there's more time to prepare for the influx of interest when people outside FC realize how Fan Tokens work.

I've read (and written) a lot about restorative practices, but not until I joined the FC ecosystem did I see anything I'd consider truly restorative in terms of financial engineering that redirects value to creative labor.

Moxie is the best I've seen.
