Subscriptions have always had a bad churn problem, it's just that most creators don't like to talk about it, and are dependant on platforms that have that as their only option (albeit, in different tiered flavours depending on what is being offered)  Any model that becomes the de-facto is going to eventually face over saturation. One of the web3 aspects I find promising is network rewards. I don't think it will be enough for everybody, and it's already shown signs of degradation (Zora cut their reward fees after Rodeo undercut theirs), but if a network can programmatically encode a default payout rate that can't be tampered at the whims of a VC, then I think it has a chance.

Well said. I like this framing and have been thinking along similar lines.

In my mind, ideally the "default payout rate" in such a network rewards incentive structure would involve some basic level of unconditionality, at least within the confines of some subset(s) of the network. 

If network rewards for deep-dive writing are made conditional upon metrics like volume or engagement, then lots of impactful, valuable work will continue to be overlooked, buried by algos, and under-rewarded.

I'm not thinking so much about Zora or Rodeo, but about how to sustainably fund deep-dive writing specifically.

In my mind there'd be plenty of room for other money legos to plug into the basic structure.

Default payout rates would need to be uniform regardless of the media format  (at least for platforms like Zora or Rodeo)

Doesn't really solve the issue where media formats are valued differently based on time/creative output
