ENS names are going through an interesting phase. 

Original vision was one name everywhere, but L1 got too expensive so people have offchain ENS (farcaster) and L2 ENS (base names, world names). 

The natural progression seems to be towards multiple ENS namespaces - is this a net good thing?

1 name everywhere is great in concept but not acceptable for several reasons. For instance, loss of access to your name can happen with ENS. Forgetting to pay for your subscription, loss of access to the wallet that holds your connection to the name, one takeover and multiple risk factors for accounts, etc. There is also the aspect of brand naming that is lost. Imagine JP Morgan Chase using ENS names and losing first level branding. Sure, it could look like a subdomain. But Chase will want its name to be primary. And to secure inside its security environment.
