I don't often agree with Balaji, and my reasoning here is different, but this is not the time to be trusting and honoring soft norms and traditions that don't work. "People of influence" should just tell the truth -- Biden is an old man in severe decline who should be replaced as candidate regardless of his personal wishes and traditions that don't work. Instead, the extent of his decline was systematically hidden until it became impossible to hide and now we have an unnecessary last minute crisis that does in fact need a last minute response of an alt candidate.
