ok maybe i'm dumb but isn't a $1 open edition kinda the same as paying 99 cents for a song on apple music circa 2009??? there are reasons we as listeners evolved past that model, incl better flexibility, variety, costs, and discovery — right? yes, crypto allows for artists to reward early fans BUT fred again and taylor swift and maggie rogers did this without crypto individual song mints could make sense for consumers who want exclusive content (ownership), supporting indie artists (patronage), permanent access, but those are the exception to the rule: the vast majority of consumers prefer the streaming model imo better model would be /hypersubs to access a curated library of $1 songs where artists get distribution through trusted musical curators instead of a centralized platform and some sort of revenue share if a listener really loves the song, they can decide to mint that individual song for $1 idk just spitballing

Not dumb at all! Key difference is you don't need to pay $1 to listen - you do it to support (and ideally share in the upside through token rewards). I don't think this is the end all be all and I'm very aligned with the long-term vision of onchain subs giving wider access and upside. Every era has new stars - streaming was Taylor, Justin, Post, etc. Onchain music stars have yet to happen and will probably be another evolution on top of $1 mints. I just think $1 editions are the strongest foundation to build on top of and find new means of onchain distribution. +1 to there needing to be strong social apps for the $1 editions to work! (and what we're currently buliding!) 1000 $DEGEN

I don't think I'm a fan of the current quest meta for music. I've minted a few of the meta-artists I like to show my support, only to see after the fact half the people minting got paid to do so and I end up feeling like a chump. Meanwhile I've minted others for platform points and two I haven't even listened to yet.

I still dont see the use for 'on-chain' here except for validating the transaction. Grateful Dead was doing all of what you have written in the '60s during the vinyl/ tape era. Couple it with internet in general - you are giving it wider access and upside... K-Pop has been doing phenomenally well in the last decade....
