Let's talk compost in NYC ๐ŸŒฑ 1. https://www.nyc.gov/site/dsny/collection/residents/curbside-composting.page - Brown cans you see on the side of some buildings. Read more about it in the FAQ https://www.nyc.gov/site/dsny/collection/residents/curbside-composting-faq.page but it is split between actual compost, the Staten Island Compost Facility to create fertilizer, and some to other facilities to be anaerobically digested to create biogas and fertilizer. Not sure what the %s are and not actually sure what % of the biogas is utilized as energy vs just burning it off to prevent methane release. 2. https://www.nyc.gov/site/dsny/collection/residents/food-scrap-drop-off.page - Smart composting bins that look like mailboxes and most of them require the NYC Compost app to open. You can include meat, bones, dairy, and greasy pizza boxes so who knows how much if any is actually composted. A while back I spoke to someone from ConEd who acknowledged that a lot just gets processed and burned off... Thread ๐Ÿ‘‡
