"In a bull market, everyone's mind becomes a missed gains calculator." @yb You've hit it out of the park with this line alone. A lot of newsletter find their way to my inbox, but /toc is one of the few I make time to finish. https://terminallyonchain.xyz/bull

I'm heading to Mendoza for all of next week. What are some of your favorite wineries in Argentina? I already have tastings at Zuccardi and Catena Zapata reserved.

Lack of focus is the death knell of startups. We tried over the past 2 years to make gating successful but composability has not been a compelling enough reason to make the switch from incumbents with entrenched network effects. > Pay to read is not new, it’s the standard for all web2 publishing Exactly - this is why we’re much more excited about exploring _net new_ ways to reward creating & distributing quality writing instead of pay to read. There’s a good chance we’ll bring back gating and memberships at some point (likely built on hypersub directly), but until we merge Paragraph + Mirror, we need to be more focused.

1) yes definitely 2) we do support multisigs as well (though it'd probably be easier to just add separate wallets/emails as teammembers)

That’s what we’d like to work towards - creators would be able to publish anywhere (not necessarily on Paragraph) and use any monetization levers they want. The approach we took so far to memberships & gating did not allow that nor had this future in mind - it had high maintenance burden, we forced Stripe for recurring fiat so a lot of it was offchain, the gating features were half baked (didn’t allow minting the actual tokens used), etc. So, we’re going to focus on what’s worked well so far on Paragraph & Mirror while making steps towards this future with composability baked in by default

In addition to what Reid said: - token-gating seems to be a stated vs revealed preference. It got very little usage on Paragraph; maximizing distribution is more tempting for most writers - Paragraph (and Mirror, now that we acquired them) had significantly more success with posts-as-NFTs instead of NFTs-for-gating - there's a better chance to get to product-market fit focused on distribution & monetizing free content (micropayments, onchain citations, etc) instead of memberships, which incumbents are already doing very well There's a good chance we'd bring it back in the future, but we'd take a different approach (eg just using Hypersub directly instead of rolling our own membership stack, which had very high maintenance burden).
