It seems like there would be a few features we can build to help:

- communities (already exists! Readers can self-segment themselves based on the topics they want to receive)
- writer-configurable community defaults for new subscribers? Right now new subs subscribe to all communities by default

- unlisted posts: they wouldn't show up on your home feed, alongside your more published posts, but you can still send them out via newsletter (and readers can still browse by the community tag)

I've been planning to use the communities feature to segment my writings by topic, but haven't set it up yet. (I was planning to use a big musician interview as the first release, but it got delayed).

Writer-configurable community defaults for new subs sounds great.
