i also prefer self order or pay machines in restaurants or supermarkets, so i agree with you on this. Not for all interactions but some it makes a lot of sense.

they’d be more efficient and less tedious but efficiency isn’t always the goal.

some interactions are more transactional in nature though, like ordering at a fast food restaurant or a very busy cafe.

I’ve worked the latter and it can feel alienating going through the same menu of questions with each customer.
