I think there is a constant battle between consumption vs creation. Consumption is passive, creation is active. Creation is where value is created. I believe those who have a bias towards creation tend to have better outcomes.

Every Thanksgiving, I think of how grateful I am for a conversation I had with a stranger at a pivotal time in both of our lives. Today, Iā€™m going to share it with yā€™all. About a decade ago, I took my 3 and 2 year olds to a Starbucks in a town just east of Seattle. It was around this time of year. I had just started my first vc backed company. There was a founder of a well known Seattle based software company who said he recognized me from a local business articleā€¦ he gave me some unsolicited advice: He told me to slow down but donā€™t waste time. Spend time with your family -> especially those kids. Build for customers -> not for investors. Donā€™t cut corners -> craftsmanship wins in the long run. And of course -> donā€™t take advice from random strangers. Several years later, after Iā€™d accumulated some battle scars, I looked him up. He had young kids. He had died of cancer shortly after he stopped by my table that day. I feel like the universe was giving him a chance to pass his torch.

iā€™m not deeply into blueprint, but I donā€™t understand why so many peopleā€™s first instinct when seeing @bryanjohnsonā€™s efforts is to tear it down / dig at his appearance. it comes off like self-soothing, as if to say, ā€œI, with the average lifestyle, chose the road more traveledā€¦ and, it, uhhhh, it has made no difference!ā€ regardless of the results, thereā€™s something admirable in being agencypilled enough to publicly push that boulder
