Has web3 lost its usefulness as term for you personally? When you’re explaining what you work on to others, do you invoke web3? I know some have ditched it (or never embraced it) but am curious to get more takes here.

I do it out of reflex but I don’t like it. Thinking of saying I work in decentralized communities. Wish there was something snappier.

I prefer crypto or onchain. But generally don't think the buzzwords are particularly helpful for end consumers. More of an insider / developer thing.

never used web3 unless I had to inside the market. to me it's online, crypto, making things focused on helping realize better options for creative small businesses and collectives I try to go with simple language and short statements as much as possible

Use it with people in the industry sometimes. Have never used it with outgroup.

To me, Web3 was synonymous with Ethereum and DeFi. I didn't like that the work I'm doing on Handshake (bcoin fork, which is a fork of Bitcoin) was lumped in because most people's perception of Web3 was ape jpegs and shitcoins. I prefer dWeb but VCs don't know what that is. So, I'm unfortunately using it in my decks.

i go with blockchain, prefer it and also easier to explain to others than web3 it's like when we talk about the current state of web, we call it internet or website or just web and not web2 pretty sure web3 won't pick up because it will eventually be called only web with mass adoption

I’ve never had an issue with “Web3”. The progression that has been explained from Web1 -> Web3 is easy to understand even it’s not 100% accurate. It’s accurate enough for people to get it. Web3 to me ≠ crypto. Web3 is a concept or a principle or set of values that is enabled by crypto.

I talk about you all and this industry so much that these phrases have become curse words with my friends & family😂😂 I’ve been using blockchain straight up with some success. Web3 is a buzzword, and crypto is speculative nothingness to the normies in my life

i've never liked the term and have only ever used it ironically. i just prefer to say new internet/web ideas and technologies bc i think crypto/onchain is just part of the ever-evolving internet. sometimes i'll say decentralized web if i want to distinguish more from web 2.0 🤷🏻‍♀️

I like the term, but it has been overused and overpromised the current state of most projects in crypto. Looking at most architectures there is some point of centralization or possibility for censorship. The infrastructure isn't fully there yet.
