I know Tyler, the Creator’s Chromakopia had impressive first-week sales, but I’m curious: do people still care about sales numbers? When was the last time stats like first-week units, pure album sales, or streaming counts actually grabbed your attention?

I think first week sales are important but it has come down to YouTube views and overall streams. Kind of miss CD sales and Vinyls (what a time to live in music)… yet, life evolves… it is what it is. How easy can a fan access their favorite artist(s) music? How easily can that fan share and reshare that song and/or album… it goes on and on.

I just wish the numbers were easier to track and that there was more transparency in all of this. I’d love to see a music leaderboard that genuinely represents real talent and success, but the numbers are all cooked and controlled by different levels of gatekeepers
