I understand intentions, but for now, it’s not decentralized, which lead to the questions in the interview. What happens when tornado cash gets deployed to Base?

A boring OFAC tells CB to not bridge out any token that touched the contract.  

A creative OFAC will tell CB to block the sequencer from allowing any transaction involving the contract.

Oh, interesting.  Just to be clear, on Optimism:

1. I can interact with a L2 smart contract directly from L1 without involving the sequencer? 

2. I can withdraw tokens from L2 directly from L1 without involving the sequencer?

Blocking the transactions at the sequencer isn't an effective means of censorship on an optimism bedrock chain. Transactions can be pushed (circumventing the sequencer) to Base directly from L1. See https://community.optimism.io/docs/developers/bedrock/explainer/#deposits
