Does anyone know why Amazon Prime rentals just gives 48 hours to finish once started? What's the business reason for this event though you can rent it for 30 days?

Positive experience required to drive repeat use. Hypothesis that finishing a film = more satisfaction / reinforces value. Creating parameters for a focused screening experience increases chance of this happening. Curious: what percentage of times do you take longer than 48 hours to view? (Unless not enjoying it.)

I like to watch while on the elliptical trainer. So 2-3 sessions for a movie, spread over several days. The 48-hour limit drives me crazy.

Yea I agree. Similar things drives me crazy too. Sometimes I need multiple sitting which spreads over few days and because of this I end up buying than renting. Lol maybe they are looking for this behavior.

That would drive me crazy. Apple have had the same in place for a long time too, haven't they?
