Startup is super simple via docker. Run docker composer up -d. Customization is great, too. We wrap Waypoint in Terraform and deploy with our own managed Cloud SQL and Redis services using the config TOML and environment variables.

You can also run multiple deployments of Waypoint for redundancy.

Over the past 3 months, we've deployed Waypoint to transfer terabytes of Farcaster data into our cloud environment. It has proven to be lightweight (only 150MBs of memory footprint), fast, and very reliable with virtually zero downtime.

We also wanted to be ready for Snapchain, so we built for that, too.

You will also need to have access to a Snapchain node. Run one locally or use a provider like Neynar.

Replace snapchain.farcaster.xyz:3383 with your own IP/domain endpoint in the configs.

You can use Waypoint to get data for your mini-app without needing an external cloud API, meaning nearly instant responses for users.

Your AI agent can query for the most recent casts, reactions, or search for user profiles.

We are big fans of Rust now! We were experiencing a lot of issues with JavaScript, particularly memory and performance ones. Learning Rust and the borrow checker was tough, but it quickly made us better engineers. It forced us to write better, idiomatic code.

You can still have data races and other panics, but they are far less likely.

Rust-built has become a synonym of "performant, fast, secure"

Farcaster data lives in Snapchain, and we need to get data out of Snapchain quickly to serve users on Uno. We do that by streaming Farcaster events to a Redis instance, and then attach Redis consumer groups to those events to finally insert into a database.

You could also remove the database processor and use Waypoint to listen for events like mentions or fetch a particular cast hash.

this sounds amazing. i want to understand better what it does. how do you personally use it? why did you create it?

i like it but i somewhy expect this to get rate limited based on the past experience i had with hubs. do you handle rate limits?

Oh I haven’t had any issue with this because we collocate the hub with Waypoint, but if you have had throttling down, we should definitely add in better handling of rates!

Yes, deletions, sadly. CastRemove could appear before CastAdd in the original hub model 😔
