some thoughts and questions given recent news re: "interesting content," changes to how channels work to me, social platforms are marketplaces with "buyers" and "sellers" (in this case, of content) - creators are "sellers" of their content goods - enjoyoors / vibing / curators are "buyers" as a content creator type on fc, i have expressed my concerns that the current fc algorithms punish new users too hard, which reduces possible audience sizes and makes the place not attractive to content creator types (and not fun for content consumers either!) (i also want to emphasize that i myself am a "buyer" on other platforms like instagram, youtube, etc.! there is no value judgement to be either and we often play both roles.) so what if instead, *user intent* is composable? similar to how in role-playing games, you can play as characters with diff types of specialization and it's set "per session," since sometimes I want to broadcast and share my content, and other times, support my friends with theirs

a very suitable contain environment should be encouraged, a fren i onboarded about 2 weeks ago keeps tellling me how dead it is telling me they only see casts from 2 days ago and 12 hrs ago and im on my feed wondering how that is true. content creators needs larger audience to meet mmore target consumers you cant expect increase in the quality of the content when the creators arent reaching their target audience all bc of algo

how would you capture user intent - explicit opt in at the start of sessions or infered from activity during the session? Interesting point though - not sure what it solves as the new audience issue truly will be solved with just scale.

imo this general logic is the reason for basically every big text social app having a "following" feed and an algo feed if you're a creator, you want to be in the mix, seeing content as it's posted, looking for things to respond to if you just want to scroll, you have an algo that gives you the highlights

I think this is a cool thought experiment. Breaking down users into possible avatars. I am generally in all four quadrants most of the time. If I don't have the juice to engage, I'm not using the app. Mindless scrolling is better on the gram.

great conversation going on here. 💜 I like the distinction and thinking. As far as being in different modes, I feel like I can switch modes many times in one session on FC. I find it natural to switch modes from one cast to another if needed.
