ethereum allows people to become more empowered to operate outside of the institutions that continually exploit us and let us down, and to build trustless alternatives

even if blockchain-based systems never became the norm, institutions will have to compete with decentralized alternatives for their survival, creating positive benefits for everyone

i believe that ethereum’s focus should be on creating positive change through innovating, and through shifting the overton window around what’s possible and what’s acceptable for the human race

when i was a teenager i started learning about the financial system and became intensely disillusioned. it felt like a ponzi supported by the average taxpayer to most greatly benefit the least ethical institutions among us. i was hopeless for my future and couldn’t find a way to build wealth or invest that didn’t feel dirty

later when bitcoin came along i looked at it with the same hopelessness. it seemed like a scam to benefit criminals and i didn’t give it a chance. but then i found ethereum. when it first clicked for me i had the opposite experience of the disillusionment of my teens. i finally found a system of financial exchange and creativity i could participate in and feel good about

as an artist frustrated by my dealings with galleries and social media platforms, i suddenly felt immense hope. i saw a way to empower myself without feeling like a sellout or cog in the machine

i know it’s not perfect here, but the system itself is what matters. it gives me far more power than i ever had before
