This is a clear view of the AURORA BOREALIS/ THE NORTHERN LIGHTS. This happened yesterday in Canada. They are potentially visible under dark skies from late August to mid-April preferably under a clear, cloudless sky. The history behind the aurora is very intriguing as they have been studied for centuries whereby inspiring many myths and legends, cave paintings and written records. The name itself combines the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and Boreas, the Greek god of the north wind. The term "aurora borealis" was coined in 1619 by Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei. Well they are many hypothesis behind the northern lights but according to science, The aurora is caused by solar storms that release electrically charged particles that collide with atoms and molecules in the Earth's atmosphere. The Eskimo tribes believed they could summon the Aurora to converse with their dead relatives. It's a very beautiful sight to behold indeed.
