How do you answer the question β€œWhere are you from?” As an immigrant who lived in a few countries I find it quite confusing. I assume that the person wants to quickly understand my language/cultural background, so go with β€œI’m originally from …, lived in A, B, C and now I live in X.”

I lived in illinois and florida growing up - for me it depends on who im talking to. By default I say chicago unless the person is from the florida area then i say that. My main reasoning is imo the average person will have more familiarity with chicago

As a current Chicago resident, when I meet other fellow Chicagoans I'm always like what's your neighborhood/intersection? I heard old school locals will say what's your high school? And old old people will ask what's your parish? πŸ˜‚
