More granular look at U.S. naval deployments in the Middle East. I didn’t clock this initially but this means that there are no carrier assets at all in the Pacific presently. This deployment came after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh and aimed to dissuade any expected retaliation from Iran. Not clear how long it’ll stay in place.

I think it must have been an investment agreement. China would seldom sign a long-term formal military or strategic agreement … Iran military cooperation lately is closer with Russia

There is fuck-all China can do defend another country from U.S. carrier groups, unless those carrier groups are within range of their (land-based) ballistic missiles. Even if they could, China, which relies heavily on exports, does not want conflict near the Straight of Hormuz and Suez Canal.
