how is it possible for xai to come out of nowhere and deliver a model that's possibly best in class? is there really no moat in this business? how do they get all the data so quickly? are there no secrets in training?

their speed is in cutting safety corners compute + data is kind of the whole equation for "competency" and LLMs are not a mystery to build anymore, so i imagine they have an edge there, but they're definitely missing the mark on not plainly providing instructions about bomb making at the drop of a hat
