Blockchains are kinda like when NoSQL came out.  Lots of hype, some use cases will never use it, but still incredibly powerful for certain users.

Oh and consumers wont care what their apps use

Balaji's Network State vision is highly dystopian and we should all hope it doesn't come to pass like that.

In any competitive ecosystem, first movers only have an advantage if they can sustain a network effect, but consequentially due to the cost and speed, many applications rely on L2s. A second mover that can consolidate into a single network that abstracts the varying layers 1/2

Technology is the wrong focus. All chains will consolidate to a wining combination over the next 10 years. 

Block space is hugely overvalued and will become so cheap it’s irrelevant. 

The story of a chain and the regulatory surface will be the differentiating factors.

100%. I don’t even think the long term state of crypto is blockchain, but it’s definitely going to be accessibility for regular devs who can’t internalize a complex mental model of a “chain” — something more like the AWS model. It’s what I’m building towards.

Normal users dgaf ab decentralization. Whichever blockchain makes

Men with guns (i.e. governments) will capture the rails and give them to their friends to extract rent, cf Standard Oil and the railways. (This would make me very sad)

Until crypto can deliver a use case that makes Web3 better than Web2, crypto is a delusional bubble

If you’re hoping for web3 versions of web2 factory data farm platforms, you’re approaching web3 entirely backwards, or in my opinion, incorrectly.

The use case of crypto is to move money in countries with weak institutions and unstable economies, where the alternative is carrying sacks of cash. Everything else is hodlers trying to make numbers go up.

There will be a post-chain world where, any direct exposure of chains/networks will be considered a leaky abstraction.

And users will not even look into how the tokens are moving from one chain to another or which L2 exists in b/w.

Most of the ideas of web3 will never go mainstream. They’re not palatable and too easy to dismantle.

True! It will probably be Layer 2s, running on Ethereum 😁
