we had one of the most incredible sunsets last night there was a five minute slot where the sun was just about to drop below the horizon and lit up the second layer of clouds

100%, wouldn't use this demo for a full app was inspired by EF's VDF work and swapped the VDF out for Coinbase to test the other functionality VDF + snarks are almost there though and degenchain might be cheap enough to validate the snark with a reasonable price! https://www.paradigm.xyz/2023/01/eth-rng

i haven't yet found enough documentation on degenchain's node structure to determine if this works over there a critical part is using info that's not available in the same block. that way other smart contracts can't attack by calling, checking the result, and reverting if they lose (so its like they never played!)

the randomness here can be influenced by the block producer so it can only be used if you trust them that's why I think it's especially interesting on Base because Coinbase is the block producer and has a _massive_ incentive to be trustworthy ive been thinking of it as social-layer "guaranteed" randomness

ah okay the arch vs crypto guarantee framing makes a lot of sense, thanks! so access to the recovery key is gated in Privy infra -> it auths the user through gcloud/sms/apple/etc, then looks up the corresponding entry in KMS to retrieve the recovery share?

been curious about this too. where is the entropy coming from to protect the user's wallet? it looks like Privy has the Auth share. and the (auto)Recovery share is stored in a KMS, but then the docs warn auto recovery = trusting Privy to secure the recovery share? echoing @grin that it's fine if that's how it works!

first time seeing the northern lights - I never realized how fast they move! always thought that videos of them were timelapses but they really do shoot across the sky for anyone into stargazing in North America, I always use www.cleardarksky.com/csk to map out light pollution, air transparency, cloud cover, and more

oh actually if it's been 20 minutes you will have to spin again unfortunately - the randomness lookback is only 256 blocks so about 8 minutes

thanks for checking it out! I just tried on rainbow mobile & desktop and was able to claim- does it work if you try again? sometimes the claim takes a second to resolve - blocks are 2s and the RPCs add a little extra latency there

I usually got for either Optimum Nutrition from Costco (looks like it’s on Amazon too) or Truvani for non-whey Both mix decently well in smoothies or on their own for some quick protein

100% also think the path it’s taking is so interesting compared to existing super apps building on naturally open protocols hopefully means there’s more potential competition -> leads to better UX for everyone

evening light as the sun sets over the mountain tops. taken last summer from Glacier Peak Wilderness in my favorite backpacking zone it's about a 6 mile hike in and then the forest suddenly opens up to this narrow valley meadow with waterfalls and snowcapped peaks

been experimenting a lot with VDFs to reach real randomness l3s are getting cheap enough too that fast, almost on demand randomness is almost here put this together to test out the UI and see what fast randomness feels like out in the wild

trying out a small experiment: there's 500 degen remaining in this machine. prizes are 10 degen and the only cost is submitting a spin tx (+ a claim tx if you're lucky!) this isn't true randomness! testing social-layer trust-based fast psuedo-randomness https://autolottery.onchainable.xyz/

it's awesome! if you haven't been before there's a 2 week stretch in late September (sometimes October) where the larches are pure gold and ground cover bright red
