The regulatory moat gotta be established. This is the guy who scans eyeballs of people who don't know what they're giving up in return for $50 in a country where $50 actually matters. And this is the guy leading a company that started as a non profit research initiative now turning into… the arbiter? Fuck this guy.

respect to Sam and what he has accomplished in bringing AI into this new age in a very real way. but monopoly in the name of “safety” gives me the same ick SBF gave me. i can’t shake the opportunistic, self-interested vibes. beyond an endorsement from PG, what has he done to earn our respect and admiration?

Hopefully we’ll see better and better open source language models that can take the lead from the big labs the way we’ve seen open image generation models take the lead from the ones from OpenAI and Google. https://www.semianalysis.com/p/google-we-have-no-moat-and-neither

Did not know this was happening. Thanks for sharing. I wonder to what extent decentralized AI projects like bittensor are on regulators’ radar https://bittensor.com

seems impossible to regulate except (maybe) for large foundational models

I believe this is what they call "regulatory capture".

This is not only stupid but scary & dangerous as well. For one, how do you enforce such a regulation? Forbid people from buying GPUs? Monitor what ppl are doing on AWS?
