It’s pretty incredible how good people are at sniffing out resource scarcity and “status” markers People absolutely speedrunning the: “whoa Farcaster is pretty cool” ⬇️ “wait why don’t I have an active badge” ⬇️ “kill Dan and everyone he puts on the auto-follow list” cycle rn

i would tell these people that discoverability, not auto follow, is the problem

I agree in spirit but not in tactics The prob isn’t a lack of discovering new people imo - it’s more about the reality of follow behavior Autofollows created diff castes (lol) of people with inflated follow counts (includes both of us) and there’s no way to replicate that number go up “success” organically

Even if you had stickied posts and had more persistent trending feeds etc, I don’t think ANYONE can realistically get 100K followers on FC rn bc the app DAU just isn’t there yet (imo I think there’s still sub 20K “real” follows to “earn”)

But the artificial scarcity it makes people (some earnest some just bitching) feel like they’re doing something wrong when they can’t grow anywhere close to the unrealistic follow “benchmarks”

I think the easiest fix is to take the autofollow list and just make that the “baseline” feed that gets adjusted by additional follows so the feed is populated upon signup Then kill the auto follows except for Dan and V to assuage anyone disgruntled by the caste system
