I read this earlier today, have boxed/wrestled/MMA/BJJ/combatives/etc all my life, and am pretty ambivalent about your reasoning.

I'm a huge advocate for people feeling confident in their ability to utilize their body, but framing it as protection for yourself and others feels like wishful thinking at best...

giving them whatever they want is basically the only thing you can do - knives, firearms, brass knuckles, etc are almost always going to win (and probably leave you dying on the ground) if you start that fight.

This logic train also leads straight into 2nd Amendment arms race hellscapes too which also is... 

an unhelpful side effect of this argument.

Fighting obesity? sure i'm there.

Doing hard things/building character? hell yea

But... 

thinking anything other than eye gouging, nut kicking, and ruthlessly trying to turn off the attacker's as fast possible is how you survive a fight where you're in legitimate danger is going to get people hurt and is absolutely dripping with keyboard warrior energy.

Love your stuff, but not a fan of this one.

If you're in a serious situation with somebody even a little bit bigger than you (even if you're trained), 9 times out of 10 the best action is   to run away as fast as you can.

And if they have any sort of weapon (which any agent of anomie is likely to have), then running away or...

So unfortunately I’ve mostly stopped combat sports because I have already had too many TBI’s and need my brain to keep working 😬

But it used to be a 2-3x a week deal depending on the phase of life.

Good to have someone with actual experience saying this.
