why do we (society) obsess over and often hate tech billionaires but don’t bat an eye at music billionaires (taylor swift, jay Z), sports billionaires (magic johnson, lebron), or entertainment billionaires (george lucas,  tyler perry)?

That was also during a time where tech wasn't so pervasive as it is today. People were just starting to come around to using the internet for the first time.

In the 2000's we had Myspace Tom as a public tech figure. But I don't think anyone hated Myspace— it didn't last long enough to have negative consequences.
