Talked to Mom Burr again today and it seems like this strike could be more serious than we realize. The main point of negotiation is AUTOMATION. The dock workers don't want this and as we all know, this is unavoidable. Again, this isn't a cast to PANIC but everything is so expensive already and if there is a shortage, things get crazy. Things I've stocked so far: - paper towels - paper plates - tooth paste - cleaning wipes - regular bathroom stuff - non pershiable foods - peanut butter

This feels like just the beginning of a tsunami of strikes due to automation. We're being replaced piece by piece, and a lot of people are going to be extremely mad that all their hard work and experience is becoming increasingly worthless in the market. We have to keep remixing what's left in the "human-only" or "human-cheaper" category into new roles.

They are being offered better retirement benefits, which seems like the only trade-off they are going to be able to accept. Automation is coming and there is no fighting it. I really feel for these families and hope they can find a fair deal. I hate seeing people not be able to buy food or pay their mortgages.
