Ok, so I'm going to share this experience because I think it's important. I recently completed the KYC process for the Moxie retrogrant. I did this for the Burr Frens poker club. If this were up to me, I would not have completed this. I was not informed that I'd have to submit my passport and utility bill in order to receive this grant. Let's dive in 🫡 First off, it's through gatenox - idk much about them, but let's assume they are a reputable and secure site

Next, I am told that I will have to provide an identity document and pass a "likeness check" At this point idk what this means but I continue on.

Thanks for going through this. Just FYI moxie and our team do not have access to any of the info you provided. It’s similar to putting your credit card into a website. The merchant does not get the card number, they just know it was approved or denied. The KYC is required for grants under the regulations of the countries moxie dao operates in. The process moxie has is the same as optimism and other major retro grants in the industry. It’s standard practice for grants.

Thank you so much for taking the time to document your experience with the Moxie Retro1 grant KYC process so thoroughly. I went through it too. First time I've ever applied for a grant in crypto. Seems there was an issue with my Oregon state ID the first time around, but my documents still got accepted. (?) When I reached the last screen it looked like the process had been completed anyway, so I got confused. After some back-and-forth messaging with Moxie in DCs I learned that I'd need to start the process over and re-enter all my data a second time. The whole process was very confusing, frustrating, and unclear. At one point I was about ready to tear my hair out (and I'm normally pretty patient with bureaucratic hoop-jumping). I wish I'd seen your thread before I started.

Watching @svvvg3.eth do this was pretty crazy. One only ever had to do that type of KYC twice in my life. Once for a digital passport and the other for employment. To see this for anything blockchain related was WILD!

As an anonymous artist, this is impossibly doxxed no matter how secure my personal info would be stored and how few people would have access Bummer, I would have enjoyed the opportunity for a grant to help fund my efforts to support artists here
