Farcaster’s growth reminds me of the early days of Twitter, except this time, the incentives and architecture are fundamentally different. The question isn’t whether decentralized social can work, but rather - what’s the inflection point where it has to work? History suggests networks scale when they hit a ‘pull event’, something that forces mass adoption. What’s that moment for Farcaster? Is it creator monetisation? A breakout app? Something else entirely?

I'm not sure but I'm inclined to think the coinbase partnership will have something to do with it.

Yeah, the Coinbase integration is a big deal, it could definitely onboard a wave of crypto-native users. But is that enough to drive mainstream adoption and break beyond the crypto crowd?🧐

Not at all. I was just guessing about the next catalyst. I think many things need to be fixed before we onboard the masses. I have 15k twitter followers and I still don't tweet about farcaster because I don't want that crowd. Right now the barrier of entry seems just right to attract good people. I don't think farcaster is ready for the masses ... but it will be.

I've been here through multiple onboarding attempts. The real good ones attract extremely extractive people and then they leave with rewards and leave a black eye on this site. This needs to change and we need to figure out that balance first. The recent degen banning opened many eyes. I hope we continue to learn and iterate.

Yeah, every wave of onboarding brings both builders and extractors. The challenge is designing incentives that attract long-term contributors without making the ecosystem exploitable.
