Libraries of Rest 📚 💤 How would you rely to the questions in the second image? Finally made time to check out an exhibition that prompts visitors to think deeply about rest and create collective tools to make it more systematically accessible. Super inspiring!! I saw ~~guilt named as a barrier throughout the exhibition many times, and I’m victim of that too. yet again, got me thinking about what’s needed for people to be able to slow down and rest. Beyond material needs - free time, bills payed, kids, pets and plants taken cares of - how do we cultivate the mindset to access rest in its many forms? I don’t have any good answers, but I have the feeling that thinking about this and sharing it more broadly might be a good place to start. For those in Berlin, the exhibition is is open until 22.09 at Silent Green. Worth a visit!

Love the idea of "libraries of rest" (and these photos) so, so much. It sounds similar to a community project I once did (albeit on a much smaller scale), and something I hope to do in the future with /blxstonesnctuary for incubation spaces. It also brings to mind The Nap Ministry by Tricia Hersey. Do you know where to find more info about the Libraries of Rest project and the folks behind it?

Incubation spaces sound delightful! Excited to hear more about how you imagine them taking shape. The libraries is a brainchild of Irish artist Ciara Barker especially for the Transmediale festival in Berlin. From her website: "Ciara Barker produces immersive installations that restrict, respond and distort, in order to intensify the participant’s experience of themselves and others within a space. Her work invites physical interaction, offering viewers a route to personal experience and discovery." i didn’t know her work before but will definitely be following along! https://ciarabarker.wordpress.com/

Thanks for that link! Excited to dig in and explore her projects. As for the incubation spaces: /blxstonesnctuary plans to publish our guide to hosting dark moon incubation retreats. More news coming soon-ish...

At the edge of my seat waiting for those retreat guides đź‘€ Retreats might seem simple at first - just isolate yourself, c'mon! but there's a level of art and sensibility that goes into creating, holding and nurturing intentional periods of retreat. I've been thinking a lot about this lately, as you probably know, so I'm excited to know more of your thoughts on it!

Well said. I put a lot of time, care, and maintenance into the incubation retreat spaces I've designed for Black Stone Sanctuary. Getting the surroundings right (spatial arrangements, music selections, colors, etc.) makes all the difference in the world. I'll keep you posted about the release of our retreat guides.
