New series: Slowcore Nerd Notes. In the first edition: rough sketches toward a "slowcore business model" for writing as an art form. We've discussed the problem space in this channel; here's more food for thought. https://paragraph.xyz/@danicaswanson/slowcore-nerd-notes-on-value-flows?referrer=danicaswanson.eth

'Respecting the limits of human time and attention' and 'built-in ways to reduce cognitive burdens and attention labor for writers' is a powerful combo that will unlock so much freedom and possibility for writers. Excited to envision and build the tools and workflows for that to happen within the slowcore context.

Definitely a powerful combo, and an underexplored design space. I still see a lot of focus on metrics (e.g., follower counts) that don't work well for purposes of cultivating slowcore value. I think a lot about the power of limits and labor-reduction in relation to value flows. Looking forward to more convos here!

The big social media apps toyed w the idea of hiding likes, views and other vanity metrics but didn’t follow through. I wonder how we could capture the nurture metrics slowcore needs to thrive? For instance, number of thought-provoking conversations in the comments or awe induced in the reader?

It's notoriously hard to measure/quantify things like that, but nonetheless I like the directional emphasis of your thinking there. Perhaps for "slowcore value" approaches we'll have to set aside standard quantitative metrics entirely for awhile, because much of this kind of value won't show up in the data at all.
