Farcaster

a thought about building cohorts of community on an ongoing basis here on Farcaster.

Went to college, didn't know anyone before I arrived, made friends, shared experiences, learned a lot, bonded with folks who shared similar experiences at the same point in time.

I've been hearing a lot of sentiment about how one aspect of what folks like about farcaster is the community, the friends, and quite often I might suggest these bonds build across a wide variety of interests.

Here, we often connect with folks across a spectrum of shared interests.

I think there is an opportunity for a community or team to create ongoing bonding experience for incoming/new users here on Farcaster, a bit akin to the campy nature of college orientation > farcaster mode.  thinking about @ted hunger games launched when direct casts were first shipped, the IRL events and meet ups, and now the burgeoning communities forming around /tavern and /farhouse spaces.

Going to try to resurface my earlier cast which wasn’t picked up initially.  The ideas around community percolated a bit more listening to /manysuchcases today.  Especially regarding the tendency to reply or not, once folks have found their tribes.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Do you think a corny orientation esque meets Sherpa mode / quests for incoming cohorts would be worth exploring?  Create a bit of community for folks coming through the arches.

🎩 first, but I like being part of this experiment that is the Farcaster network. 

Yeah that’s definitely a good point re similar intention, guess I was thinking some modified version of crypto the game (not as demanding) type bonding that folks could opt into, I think channels present an opportunity for some to engage, yet for others showing up to a new site can be intimidating and thinking about ways to draw folks out of the shell a bit.

Likely feels forced, yet if it was marketed in the right way it might draw some folks in.

I listened to this pod too Brix and appreciate your thoughts. 

It’s hard to know where to discuss anything in depth on here because one can write out in-depth thoughts on complex subjects and they will get zero engagement vs. more “popular meta” type stuff.

I am not sure if hand holding would help, but conceptually I think Cohorts is a good idea from the standpoint that it is much easier to bond with people who are coming in in that same level, rather than trying to reply to top guns.

Maybe they could codify that a bit more and encourage it, but I am not sure if “Orientation” will help per se because it’s hard to know the average user’s intentions on here (farmer vs contributor), whereas on campus everyone has a fairly clear and similar intent.
