Here’s my analogy for our current health care system in the US, which greatly neglects primary care Say I gave you a car today, told you drive that car as much a you like, do whatever maintenance you see fit, then come back to me in 10 years and I’ll keep the car running for you for another decade no matter how you’ve cared for it previously. That’s what we do in America. Medicare after a life has been lived, all too often without the necessary maintenance, is a recipe for $$$, not to mention the demographic pressure. I think despite the inherent issues in single payer systems in other parts of the world, we’ll see the topic honestly debated in the US in my life time, sooner rather than later.

It’s an interesting thought exercise to see how “free” you are willing to let people be when it comes to health. As it stands right now Americans have the freedom to make unhealthy choices by and large. We mandate seatbelts but not exercise.

It’s coming, it requires so much political power to legislate away from the existing insurance/pharma model. The last time we saw major legislation for healthcare was Obamacare. John Mccain saved Obamacare, during Trump. If Kamala wins, and the D’s have a strong majority in the house, we could see legislation in her first term.
