I’m sorry but if you’re paying $200k for a smart contract engineer you’re ngmi any solid dev should be able to write solidity with the help of chatgpt “no, the smart contract needs to be perfect and be audited” bro hit $100k in daily volume then worry about it being perfect

Bad take, if you're handling user funds, in a pvp environment where you don't have the ability to reverse transactions, then security needs to be a top priority or else its existential risk to your project

I agree with you. Almost no one has a use for a full time smart contract dev and any talented engineer should be able to learn solidity to write most of your SCs and then you can consult with an expert if necessary.

Learning this myself with a hackathon I’m in. Wrote multiple custom smart contracts with the help of ChatGPT and it’s mind boggling the day we live in.

When I worked as a Solidity dev I used to wake up at 3am because I dreamt there was a bug in the contract, and I could only fall back asleep if I got up and went though the code again. I think you underestimate the pressure of writing code that's immutable but will hold hundreds of thousands or even millions in TVL

Oooo, this is a fun controversial take. I think it all comes down to what you’re writing the contract for. A new [Adjective] [Animal] [Collective Noun] NFT collection? Yeah, sure, LLM it up. Are you writing a multi-chain bridge with token rewards and on-chain DAO governance? Uhhhh… That will not end well.

Also, I think if you have enough money to debate 200k for smart contract engineer then you have enough traction that security is important. Or you got VC money too early and if the VC has to tell you to prioritize PMF then they made a shitty investment.

As much as I want to roast this, blockchain engineer was one of the most “replaceable” jobs on that OpenAI list.
