because a lot of people are stuck in web2 zirp land, so even if you can think for yourself your entire ecosystem around you has to change before your incentives change gunna be a little while longer, but when analytics get better you'll see the turn tables.. turn... table....

Most apps i know view them as top funnel plays to gain maximum short term awareness. They're essentially the superbowl ad of web3, with probably the same spectrum of motivations for creating one.

besides being the easiest way to hype up the market and metrics before the launch, it also has significant legal advantage afaik

It's not about the airdrop itself; it's the short-term approach. Once it's in the wallet, the pump-and-dump starts. Airdrops closely tied to the product and approached with a long-term view can be beneficial for growth.
