Cradle of Humankind: Turkana, Africa The Turkana tribe is a native Nilote people of Turkana County in northwestern Kenya, living in a semi-arid climate zone, bordered by Lake Turkana to the east, Pokot, Rendille and Samburu tribes to the south, Uganda to the west, and South Sudan and Ethiopia to the north. They call their land Turkana. Because it is close to Lake Turkana, this is where archaeologists have discovered human origin sites such as the "Turkana Boy" and is considered the cradle of mankind.
