I made a point on Spaces today that Farcaster isn’t competing with Twitter, rather it’s a play for your “second” social network. A lot of people spend more time on Twitter, but then go to Discord, Reddit, or Telegram for more focused conversation.

Twitter is still my default, but the other day I spent 300% more time on here than on there. It's starting to feel more like a new home but many friends still have to move into the neighborhood.

I covered this on my newsletter. Ppl think farcaster needs to replace twitter or ___ to win. When in fact there are online communities/platforms that only focus on a small niche that are winners. Ex: fanfiction, Lego builders, etc. FC can coexist & still win by many metrics

That’s reasonable for the foreseeable future, but at a large enough scale it’s a 1:1 replacement for Twitter.

Nah fam, this replaces Twitter but chatrooms continue on Discord. I would argue this replaces Reddit with properly moderated Channels as well.

In a perfect world, and with a lot of abstraction work, this could in fact compete with Twitter. Eliminating bots; Eliminating the dupes of your own account; Eliminating the data leaks; etc. becomes super desirable once the UI/UX is cleared… and it’s damn close already.

Farcaster feels like what all Discord want to achieve. You can have more focused conversations and get updates from projects/people you respect. You also don't have to battle with bots to find interesting comments
