I do hear this one a lot. I believe the MSM labels it “threat to democracy” - is your biggest fear that he won’t leave office in 2028?

USA moving toward authoritarianism. That’s my greatest fear with Trump

So the people, including myself, who voted for him, hold the Constitution dearly. Many of us saw the overreach during covid as alarming and want a reset. We would never want someone to upend what we hold dear. If he strays, he’s going against our mandate. 

We did not elect him because he’s a demagogue. We elected him because we want less government overreach.

the U.S. Constitution addresses providing “aid and comfort” to insurrectionists in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. This section was added after the Civil War to prevent individuals who had engaged in rebellion against the United States from holding office. Specifically, it states that any person who has taken an oath to support the Constitution and then engages in “insurrection or rebellion” or gives “aid or comfort” to such individuals is disqualified from holding federal or state office. Exactly. I don’t care how many of his voters are kind hearted. We are undoubtably closer to the crumbling of US democracy than we were a week ago. How much closer is the question

He left power after pursuing every avenue could think of to keep it.

He urged governors to “find” him votes, solicited the help of foreign governments to go after political opponents, plotted to create fake slates of electors, urged his vice president to certify those fake electors, and allowed his mob to attack the capitol.

He was surrounded by people constantly keeping his worst impulses in check. If he learned his lesson and installs loyalists to every position possible within his power, who knows what happens. Especially with years of planning to work with this time.

I don’t think the end of US democracy is the most likely outcome, and hopefully the supreme court doesn’t get insane enough to not remain a check on him.

Though if US democracy were to fall, i struggle to think of any other way it would begin than something very similar to this.

I hear you, for sure. So food for thought - he was president for four years and as bumpy as the end was, left power. Those who voted for him hold onto this truth.
