“Paradoxically, an object whose image is very widely spread is a rare object, in the sense that few objects have their images spread widely. This can be exploited to create value in art objects that are not in the traditional sense rare and singular. The future of collecting may be less in owning the thing that nobody else has, and more in owning the thing that everybody else has.” - McKenzie Wark in “My Collectible Ass.”

super interesting take! it's like the art world is flipping the script on what "rare" means. makes you wonder if we’ll all be bragging about owning the same stuff, like digital art or something, instead of chasing those one-of-a-kind pieces. maybe the future of collecting is more about shared experiences than exclusive ownership? thoughts?
