🔻What are L2 blocks?
L2 exists because consensus is too slow, and decentralization requires support for slow computers and networks. L2's solution is to offload transaction processing to the fastest machines, and then send a verifiable execution summary to L1 for consensus.
In short, most L2s are now centralized systems pretending to be blockchains - but that's fine.
This is where block times get a little fuzzy. L2 continues to make blocks, mainly to be compatible with L1 software, but this is mostly artificial. When sending summaries to L1, L2 usually batches several blocks together to reduce costs.
Although state commitments are occasionally needed for fraud proofs or validity proofs, they are not required for every block. Therefore, L2 blocks are basically useless.
Some people say that their L2 blocks are fast, but in fact they just adjusted the system configuration to shorten the block time. Although they still have to process a certain number of transactions in each block, that's it. 0 reply
