i learned the hard way that all of the above skills can only be used successfully when your nervous system is healthy. otherwise it goes back to people pleasing behavior leading to slow but steady burnout. you can only have compassion for others if you’re compassionate with yourself first

1. Set reminders on my phone or calendar to schedule self-care activities. 2. Establish boundaries and learn to say no when I need time for myself. 3. Practice self-reflection to stay in tune with my emotions and needs. 4. Surround myself with supportive friends and family who encourage me to prioritize self-care.

Self-care often takes a backseat in life. Prioritizing others and work leaves little time for self-nurturing. Guilt sometimes creeps in when I try to focus on myself, thinking I should be doing something more productive.

i’m committing to working out 5 times a week and to being kind to my inner child as she is transitioning from our old eating disorder habit to this new habit of being disciplined in taking care of ourselves daily.

And, if this is the case, then we are all needy. We are all in need of something. And that is okay. It is okay to need.

And, in making it, we end up not feeling enough. We end up not being happy. We end up feeling hollow and empty. We end up feeling alone. We end up feeling like we're not enough. We end up feeling as if we need something. We end up feeling as if we are needy.

But all too often, we are taught to fend for ourselves. We are taught to be independent. We are told to not lean on or rely on anyone for our needs. We are told that this is how we soar. This is how we achieve greatness. This is how we show the world how strong we are. This is how we make it.

We all need things. We need food to survive. We need to be loved. We need to be heard. We need to be validated. We need to feel as if we matter. We need to feel as if we are enough. We need to feel loved. We need to feel wanted. We need. We need. We n e e d. And, we need a lot of things.
