(1/3) Runners might feel this. 3 years ago I signed up for Berlin half marathon, prepped 3-4 weeks without any plan and ran 1:42. Nice! Last year, I was like let’s make a plan then! (In fact my partner got the plan to be fair). So I got this 50 bucks pdf about how to prep to run a half in 1:30 within 12 weeks. Berlin half is always beginning of April. I was super committed. Started training the first day of January and didn’t miss a session. After a few sessions though I already realized it was actually too tough. Remember limping in the office and asking @hellno.eth how he dealt with the pain when he was training for the full marathons!? He said he usually didn’t have any pain, which should have gotten me thinking. Well, I kept on pushing. Pushing too hard? Three weeks before the race I got the flue and couldn’t even walk 30 meters without loosing my breath. I fairly recovered, started at the race and barely made it to the end. All that work - no reward.

2/3 Next time I told myself would be revenge time. So in October 2024 I started prepping for this year! Super easy Zone 2 runs. A breeze. Then it happened. Again. Just differently. One dark November evening the front wheel of my Bianchi fell off!!! My left shoulder kissing concrete. Two days later every single muscle in my left shoulder and upper back cramped up like hell. What followed were two months of little sleep and no running. Ok January. Recovered? Shoulder kinda ok? No more pain killers? Yes? Can pick up training again? Aaaaaaand … got the flu. Lungs dead. -.-

3/3 It was clear that I couldn’t even dream about 1:30 anymore so I just chilled an entire month with no cardio until the lungs fully recovered. I got back to running on the 19th of Feb. I hadn’t been running since November but felt it’s time for a test. So I set the treadmill to the target pace of 14.1 km/h and ran 10k. Are we back!? So I got a 8 weeks training program targeting 1:30h, cut it in half ^^ and included a recovery week. Foam roll every day. The run is in 2,5 weeks. The plan says I’m on track. But honestly I don’t trust it (and I am only doing half of it) and I don’t care too much. Who knows what’s happening until then. I’ll keep you posted.
