reality tv definitely played a part. back in the day Zsa Zsa Gabor was lampooned as being famous for being famous, ie having no talent other than presentation and association with celebrity. then it became the norm.

that’s precisely it, when you could point at a celebrity and a majority of people could recognize the talent said celebrity was celebrated for, it was all transparent, and true, and made sense when someone like honeybooboo is being forced onto everyone as a celebrity, it starts to break the logic and rot the culture, and we’re just living in madness now where words mean nothing anymore

I would argue speed may be culprit, any C rated content creator can now record and publish ready to consume whereas masterpieces take time.
