Now I wonder if there’s an expressivity formalism here, like computability theory but for coordination.

Right, “a lot” is fuzzy. I didn’t mean you can approach that functionality with just sigs and I agree the chain state unlocks a radical level of coordination. But you could use MPC to split a secret so messages are only signable as a group. Or you could have verifiable anon polling with ZKs. And maybe those even compose interestingly.

It’s the “Yes but it’ll be really hard” that gets me.

Yeah onchain provides a collective “right here right now” for coordination to happen. But you can do a lot with just signatures.

Nice. Make the Obsidian name a bit less white and centered and I’m in on either.

I am still surprised Next took off for web3 use cases which are client-focused. Much of Next’s SSR magic isn’t really applicable if your client needs to respond to wallets.

This is how the internet started. But there are no such consortiums today. Sucks. Ironically a thing built on institutional trust played a big role in eroding institutional trust. Maybe if internet hadn’t pulled up the ladder we’d have cold fusion and quantum computers and world peace by now.

I haven’t seen one. It’s not easy talking security and incentives with casual humans But I think blockchain stuff can probably become pervasive with most people having zero intuition about how it works.

One of my kids went to a Montessori preschool. I remember chuckling at one of their values: “Freedom to Play; Freedom to Work” But it did highlight that work and play have an interesting relationship, and for kids (and lucky adults) sometimes are the same thing

There’s nothing inherently wrong with work that doesn’t solve problems. It’s art or research or play, depending on where it’s conducted.
