But I’ve noticed that with a well-curated network, sometimes the people around you play the role of “catcher” to help you catch opportunities or intros.

I really enjoyed this piece and am curious about your selection of 'network collapse' as the name for this outlook. In my mind what you're describing is a little more like an orbiting motion of celestial bodies, with your area of expertise making you gravitate towards certain people. 

If you miss a chance, it seems to swing back around - and this time you need to be ready to embrace it.
