many people took my comments to believe that i'm anti content and pro financial incentives; that is not the case my point is that financial incentives -- and especially uniquely onchain ones -- are the key to getting high quality content on farcaster nearly every youtube video you enjoy is on youtube because of financial incentives; same for tiktoks, same for reels the best frames on farcaster have been built by people motivated by creating frames to advance their onchain business goals; quality frames are content polymarket is onchain and it's quality content to be clear: i strongly believe that the key to farcaster's future is unique and high quality content and i even stronger believe that onchain is the key to unlocking it

Has there ever been a new content platform that “won” and got its initially foothold by incentivizing UGC?

I think a strong point you made is that if this network is like the other networks and doesn't have net new interactions it's DOA. Instagram is already great. Threads is already losing to Twitter by competing on content and it has great content.

Building a larger active and engaged user base that’s interested various types of content is the key to getting high quality content on farcaster Incentives help jumpstart this but you still need to build something sustainable so that content creators don’t just churn once incentives die down

"financial incentives -- and especially uniquely onchain ones -- are the key to getting high quality content on farcaster" Agreed completely. Case in point: I'm a freelance writer, editor, and solo business owner. I publish quality writing that many casters appreciate. I own two niche FC channels, I love the community here, and hopefully it's obvious that I'm in this for the long haul. But I rely on "billable hours" for my livelihood. So until there's a way to make this work financially sustainable, it'll have to remain a side project. I know from experience that the web2 options are insufficient, so...

And that makes total sense. It’s kinda like Microsoft’s Attempt to enter the mobile market with Windows Mobile Phones. Their problem was that for their OS to be valuable in the eyes of the users, no matter how interesting the UI and overall UX was, they needed to have useful apps! Apps are what make the difference. It’s the user’s perception of value to their everyday XP that make them want to use such device. In order to build that value, Microsoft began to give incentives for developers to adapt their apps for the Windows Mobile Phone’s OS and slowly it began the job of convincing people to buy. Some actually did. Some began to report it was a nice XP and all, but in the long run, Microsoft’s Strategies didn’t work out. Most developers began to see that the incentives were not aligned with the work and reward of doing it and it ultimately failed What probably went wrong was the incentive strategy (and of course the natural very huge disadvantage that it already faced for arriving so late)

i think i agree atm, people are more likely to join farcaster if they're interested in doing things onchain (art, community, speculating, gambling, community, not necessarily in that order), and also networking with founders in that space this is what separates farcaster from every other social network that exists today, it's farcaster's clear advantage we can have our different visions for what will make farcaster win, but this is the current state of the network so leaning into what is happening now makes the most sense, versus trying to force a massive shift -- is such a shift even possible?

I think the beauty of this place is that we need both....a way for people to get rewarding for posting amazing recipes and content AND a place for people to cast about what they ate. The beauty of this place is that I as a normal person can directly interact with the chef who creates the recipe or the developer who makes and amazing frame. The value here is the disintermediation. I can reward artists and builders directly. And as a result I connect with them and reward them. I tip them, I buy their art, I listen to their content, I use the products and services they recommend. This place is so early but the uniqueness of this place needs to be celebrated.
